A London office, a nervous new temp called Harriet and a boss who cannot keep his eyes on his calendar. His personal assistant had her own plans for him, and she is not taking the competition quietly. Under the Boss is a workplace triangle, and one of the titles people search for most on Candy Shorts.

First day at the office

Harriet starts at the firm as a temp, shy and keen to make a good impression. The boss notices her almost immediately and his interest becomes an obsession within days. The PA, blonde, sharp and possessive, sees the newcomer as a threat to an arrangement she thought was hers.

What follows is less a romance than a turf war. The boss pursues, Harriet hesitates and then does not, and the assistant schemes to break them up. The office setting gives the series meetings, late nights and plenty of doors to close.

The opener introduces the office pecking order: the PA managing the boss's diary, the boss bored by it, and Harriet walking in and changing his focus. The rivalry is set before the chapter ends.
